The configuration of the city's central blocks in Santiago, as a rich and complex reticule of the pedestrian zone of covered galleries and open passages, which are juxtaposed to the order of the orthogonal mesh of streets, walks and public spaces, revela yhe evolution that has been registred in the foundational geometric tissue from the sixteenth century tode present. It also shows high capacity of these filler units to accommodate over time, successive urban transformation processes and particularly, the variety of ew architectural operations that were part of the modernization recorded since the second half of the nineteenth century.Based on the regular and homogenepus layout of the morphologic pattern set with the grid, galleries and passages from the city center, represent one of the most important transformations inthe history of urban development in our continent, which also had the role of materializing a morphological order superior to the elementality of the initial matrix, with the creation of an own form.
