- ItemChile(Springer, 2020) De Amesti Mujica, José; Herrera Ponce, Maria Soledad; Madero Cabib, IgnacioDuring the last three decades Chile has experienced an unprecedented demographic transition due to increased life expectancy and decreased childbirth. This is expected to cause important challenges to economic, health and culturaldimensions among older people in Chile. Furthermore, this is a developing countrycharacterised by a liberal labour market and pension policies and by a male breadwinner culture-locating women in care and domestic tasks at the expense of labourmarket participation. This means that gender plays a key role in the challenges associated with an ageing population. We discuss public policies and recent academicresearch on the economic, health, and cultural dimensions of ageing in Chile
- ItemNew Landscape and Emerging Dynamics of Interaction Between Users and Urban Space Produced by Digital Delivery Platforms(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2025) Vera Álvarez, Rodrigo AndrésAbstract Globalization and the advancement of information and communication technologies have transformed urban areas, highlighting the emergence of home delivery applications. These applications offer conveniences and job opportunities but also pose challenges such as job insecurity, traffic congestion, and exclusion of marginalized communities. In response to these dynamics, a research methodology based on design is proposed, emphasizing the integration between theory and practice. The research highlights the value of the prototype as a generative and learning tool, demonstrating the feasibility of collecting data through the active participation of citizens. This methodological approach is applied to explore the impact of home delivery applications in urban areas, identifying complexities and emerging dynamics. It focuses especially on the Metropolitan Region, thus contributing to the discipline of urban studies through research through design. This research underscores the importance of considering equity in the city in the context of the collaborative economy and digitalization. Thus, through the prototype of ethnographic instruments, it has been demonstrated that it is feasible to collect data through the active participation of citizens

- ItemSlow Recoveries(WORLD BANK INST, 2010) Bergoeing, Raphael; Loayza, Norman V.; Repetto, Andrea; Loayza, NV; Serven, LIn this study, we examine residential trajectories since birth among older adults in the Santiago Metropolitan Area, Chile, and their association with health outcomes. We linked retrospective residential information for a sample of 802 individuals aged 65-75 in 2019 to context-based information from decennial censuses. Our analysis reveals substantive heterogeneity in individuals' residential trajectories, thus mirroring social and urban changes in Chile's largest city. We found significant associations between residential histories and health outcomes at the time of the interview. Consistent residence in advantaged areas was linked to better health, whereas relocating to the metropolitan area from elsewhere was generally linked to poorer health, except for those moving to emerging middle-class areas. These findings underscore the importance of longitudinal and life course approaches in understanding the complex relationship between place and health.
