- ItemEvolution of confessional schools in Chile's changing and challenging environment: 2012-2020(2023) Madero, Cristobal; Imbarack, Patricia; Neckelmann, Maureen; Celis, Ana MariaThe process of modernization in Chile during the last decades of the 20th century, accelerated a decoupling between society and the Catholic religion, while a more diverse religious panorama emerged in the country. Due to the historical importance of confessional schools as religious-based social organizations, and the lack of literature regarding their transformation during the last ten years, we study the evolution of such schools in Chile. Based on quantitative secondary data from the Ministry of Education, we aim to explain trends in the number and enrolment in confessional schools in the last decade based upon a New Institutionalist theoretical framework.

It is the purpose of thisarticle to answer the question of the role of religion and spirituality in shapingthe meaning of life of young people in the final stage of schooling, particularlyin Catholic confessional schools. By using quantitative methods, the resultsshow that in the analysis of the meaning variable and its impact on dimensionsof characterisation, there are differences in the score of the meaning of lifeaccording to the religious self-definition of students. Also, to observe thedifferences when comparing Catholic schools versus secular schools.
- ItemLet's Spend Time Together: Text Messaging Parents to Help Math-Anxious Students(2021) Santana, Macarena; Nussbaum, Miguel; Claro, Susana; Piza, Sebastian; Imbarack, Patricia; Loeb, SusannaEven when parents have the time required to support their children's education, they can increase their children's anxiety about school when they try to help, especially if they are not confident in their own abilities. This study measures the effects of having parents complete nonacademic schoolwork with their teenage children. Half of the 422 participating parents were randomly assigned to receive weekly assignments for nonacademic activities to complete with their children, whereas the other half received information about upcoming mathematics tests. Mathematics-anxious students benefitexd from working on the nonacademic assignments, performing significantly better on their mathematics tests and decreasing their mathematics anxiety after treatment. These findings highlight the importance of involving parents in ways that feel nonthreatening to their children.

A look at the Chilean case(PONTIFICIA UNIV CATOLICA CHILE, FACULTAD TEOLOGIA, 2016) Imbarack, Patricia; de la Cerda, PaulaThis research includes findings on the faith and culture dialogue in the school context, from the perception of teachers, focusing on their understanding of faith. Through a comprehensive approach and qualitative techniques, we worked with 12 schools belonging to the archdiocese, to congregations and other holders; 120 teachers of different areas of the curriculum in focus groups. Early results show the diversity of views and practices of schools on faith in everyday life.
