We review the application of stochastic quantization to the large N limit of quantum field theories. Important properties of this limit such as the Eguchi-Kawai reduction and the master field idea are discussed in detail, illustrated by several examples. We rely on the Langevin and Fokker-Planck approaches to stochastic processes. Specially interesting is the use of the hidden supersymmetry of the path integral formulation of random processes to find the master field equations.
