dc.description.abstractA partir de la primera propuesta de extender a América las intendencias españolas, hecha por José del Campillo y Cossío en 1743, se analizan las razones que llevaron a implementar esta reforma, teniendo en cuenta los distintos argumentos que se consideraron al interior del Consejo de Indias y en las secretarias del despacho para realizarla o posponerla, tales como reformar el gobierno político y económico, poner fin a la corrupción y uniformar el gobierno de la Monarquía. Asimismo, se confrontanlos argumentos que la historiografía ha dado para entender las razones que explican sus contenidos fundamentales y la manera de implementarla, destacando la adaptación local.
dc.description.abstractThis paper analyzes the basis and reasoning behind the first proposal of the extension of the Spanish intendancy system to America, submitted by José del Campillo y Cossío in 1743. Particularly, it refers in depth to the different stances on the issue and the arguments considered by the Council of the Indies, such as reforming the economic and political system, tackling corruption, and standardizing the Monarchy’s government. In addition, the essay compares the arguments offered by historiography to understand the reform’s essential contents and the manner it was implemented, emphasizing local adaptation.
