Variation in the prevalence and intensity of infection of fishes by larval anisakids was examined in 360 hake (Meluccius gayi) caught off central Chile. Each month, from April 1979 to March 1980, 30 hake were taken from commercial catches and stored on ice for dissection and examination on arrival at port. Anisakis simplex was found in 90.5% of the hake and Phocanema spp. in 10.83%. No seasonal variation in the prevalence of A. simplex was observed in females.
