Abstract
Protoplasts were isolated from two sexually incompatible Caricaceae (Carica candamarcensis and C. papaya) edible species. Preplasmolysis and protoplast yield were established in response to enzyme concentration, digesting temperatures, nutrient media and tissue source. Fused protoplasts of both species as well as first steps in cell cluster formation were observed.
