- ItemOrientaciones éticas para la toma de decisiones médicas en el contexto de la pandemia de COVID-19 en Chile(2020) Valera, Luca; Carrasco Barraza, Maria Alejandra; Lopez Barreda, Rodrigo Alonso; Ramos Vergara, Paulina Cecilia; Bernhardi Montgomery, Rommy von; Bedregal Garcia, Paula; Florenzano, Alejandra; Pérez Hernández, Iván Modesto; Olivares Osorio, Patricia Carolina; Vargas Celis, Ivonne; González, Ximena; López S., Paulo; Durán Saavedra, Gloria Patricia; Richards, Constanza; Castro, RicardoThe catastrophic emergency experienced by many countries with the COVID-19 pandemic emphasized the importance of bioethics for decision-making, both at the public health (equitable and effective policies) and at the clinical level. At the clinical level, the issues are the fulfillment of medical care demand with adequate health care teams, infrastructure, and supplies, and to cover critical care demands that surpass the available resources. Therefore, ethically correct approaches are required for the allocation of life sustaining resources. There are recommendations for the allocating life support during disasters based on multiple considerations, including ethical ones. However, the ethical criteria of existing guidelines are variable. Ethical principles usually considered are saving the greatest number of lives, saving the greatest number of years of life and the principle of the life cycle or the goal to give each individual equal opportunity to live through the various phases of life. However, the centrality of the human being and the search for the common good should be considered. Knowledge of public perspectives and moral benchmarks on these issues is essential. A successful assignment effort will require everyone's trust and cooperation. Decision making should be planned and discussed in advance, since in-depth deliberation will be extremely complex during the disaster. Our goal is to help the health care teams to wisely allocate resources in shortage periods.
- ItemVoices of childhood in pandemic: Chad, Chile and USA. Analysis of multimodal narratives in distant educational contexts(2024) Ow Gonzalez, Maili Solange; Bernales Silva, Margarita Maria; Lopez Barreda, Rodrigo Alonso; Cunto-Amesty, Silvia; Claro Garcia-atance, Juan CarlosObjective:To understandexperiences with the COVID of 45 children and adolescents from three countries: Chad, Chile and the USA, in order to 'read-listen' to their voices, understand their worlds and verify the relevance of the 'local' component. Theoretical Framework:A critical perspective on how the adult world relates to and understands children is proposed. Concepts such as visions of childhood and adultcentrism; education in the context of crisis, narrative coherence and multidimensional well-being are addressed.Method:Case study, with participants between 5 and 18 years of age. Data collection was through the application of a writing task that invited to explain what COVID-19 is and to recommend how to prevent it.Results and Discussion:The results reveal that the variability in the social determinants of health, in terms of income level, culture and health policies, modified the experience of the same phenomenon, with different representations of the adult world, expression of the protection strategies or repercussions in the lives of the participants.Research Implications:The use of multimodal narrative analysis methodology is appropriate for data collection because it allows us to know, through the participants' own expressive resources, how they were affected by the pandemic. Originality/Value:The interdisciplinary approach of health and education, as well as the consideration of diverse sociocultural contexts, raises questions and challenges for the future, such as greater attention and protection in the messages of care and self-care towards integral wellbeing, reducing the feeling of uncertainty and fear
