- ItemMulti Band Study of the Morphology of RR Lyrae Light Curves(2025) Bárbara Camila Pozo Vallejos; Catelan, Márcio; Hajdu, Gergely; Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile. Facultad de FísicaThe interest in the study of variable stars has been revived by large astronomical projects, and it is expected to grow even further with upcoming projects such as Rubin / LSST. Among these, RR Lyrae stars are of particular importance, as they serve as powerful tools for probing the properties of old stellar populations. To improve the photometric characterization of both fundamental mode and first-overtone RR Lyrae stars in the optical regime, a comprehensive analysis of the available photometric information was first conducted on light curves in the I and V bands for stars located in the Galactic bulge, based on data from OGLEIV. As a result, two high-quality training sets were constructed in the I-band, consisting of 4,372 fundamental-mode and 4,068 first-overtone mode RR Lyrae stars. A Principal Component Analysis was applied to both samples, revealing that the first seven principal components account for 99.93% of the total variance in the light curves of fundamental-mode stars, and the first four components account for 99.91% for the light curves of first-overtone mode stars. Using the PyFiNeR code and two high-quality test sets in both bands for each subtype, the performance of the method in predicting RR Lyrae light-curve shapes was evaluated. The resulting fits are consistent with the observed photometry in the V-band, and the light-curve shape in this band was accurately reproduced, even in cases where the photometric sampling was sparse.
