- ItemA NEW SPECIES AND NEW RECORDS OF MARINE-ALGAE FROM CHILE(1989) SANTELICES, B; RAMIREZ, ME; ABBOTT, IAContinued study of the marine algae of the coast of northern and central Chile has revealed the presence of a number of new forms. A new species (Gastroclonium cylindricum), two new combinations (Cryptonemia lobata (Howe, 1914) [Chrysymenia lobata] and Gastroclonium trichodes Pujals 1967) [Coeloseira trichodes] and the presence of four species with highly disjunct patterns of geographic distribution (Cutleria multifida, Colpomenia phaeodactyla, Petroglossum pacificum and Schotteria nicaeensis) are reported.
- ItemNEW RECORDS OF MARINE-ALGAE FROM CHILE AND THEIR EFFECT ON PHYTOGEOGRAPHY(1978) SANTELICES, B; ABBOTT, IAForty species of marine algae (10 Chlorophyta, 9 Phaeophyta and 21 Rhodophyta) are newly reported from central and northern Chile. Of these, 17 are new to Pacific South America, the remaining are range extensions from Peru and within Chile, including Fuegia. Twenty-one taxa, including 9 previously reported, are primarily temperate in distribution, and represent a group of bipolar species. Seven are tropical or subtropical in relationship, and 6 are subantarctic. The mix of species is a reflection of the long Chilean coast line and the large variety of physical parameters that affect ecology and distribution.
