    Athanase d’Alexandrie, Tome aux Antiochiens. Lettres à Rufinien, à Jovien et aux Africains

    En 360, pour l’évêque d’Alexandrie, le salut des croyants est en jeu : « homéenne », la foi officielle de l’empire romain en 360 reconnaît au Christ une simple « ressemblance » avec le Père. Athanase tente donc de reconstruire l’unité de l’Église autour de la foi définie au concile de Nicée en 325, disant le Fils « consubstantiel » au Père. Après le synode d’Alexandrie qu’il convoque en 362, il écrit aux Antiochiens un « tome », c’est-à-dire une lettre officielle, alors que s’opposent à Antioche plusieurs tendances. Parmi les homéens modérés, Mélèce réunit un synode en 363 qui réinterprète le « consubstantiel » nicéen ; il en adresse le résultat à l’empereur Jovien, passant outre Athanase qui réagit en dénonçant cette interprétation dans sa Lettre à Jovien sur la foi. Deux autres lettres complètent le dossier : la Lettre à Rufinien, sur la réintégration des clercs qui ont signé la formule de 360, et la Lettre aux Africains, rejetant les positions homéennes du synode de Rimini (359). En annexes sont aussi traduits plusieurs documents du dossier.L’ensemble offre à voir comment le grand Alexandrin défend l’idée que « Nicée suffit », tout en faisant évoluer la foi trinitaire, en particulier sur le Saint-Esprit.

    Daniel Turcea, un poète mystique roumain contemporain

    À travers la présentation du poète roumain méconnu Daniel Turcea (1945-1979) et l’analyse de quelques-uns de ses poèmes, l’article pose la question de l’affinité entre l’expérience mystique et l’expérience poétique. En effet, l’oeuvre de Turcea est répartie de part et d’autre d’une conversion ou d’un retour au christianisme orthodoxe. L’expérience mystique a-t-elle signifié un changement de contenu de l’expérience poétique, par exemple, l’intégration de thèmes propres du corpus littéraire de la spiritualité orthodoxe? La vocation de poète, en tant que vocation spirituelle, a-t-elle préparé l’expérience mystique?

    DID ATHANASIUS WRITE THE ENCYCLICAL OF ALEXANDER OF ALEXANDRIA?

    This article aims at confirming George Christopher Stead's hypothesis that Athanasius, yet a deacon, wrote for his bishop Alexander of Alexandria the encyclical 'Epsilon nu omicron zeta sigma omega mu alpha tau omicron zeta. The demonstration implies, on one hand, a synthesis on the preserved writings of Alexander of Alexandria, and, on the other hand, a reconstruction of the chronology of the documents and events prior to the Council of Nicaea of 325. It leads to an evaluation of Athanasius' christology, at the beginning of his literary carrier, in comparison with his mentor Alexander.

    ¿Qué concepto de identidad personal para la cristología?

    La cristología pretende contestar a la pregunta por la identidad de la persona de Jesús de Nazaret. El presente ensayo intenta aclarar las precomprensiones del concepto de identidad personal y su influencia en la manera de responder a la pregunta cristológica. Después de un panorama histórico de contextualización, el autor parte de una descripción fenomenológica de la identidad de Jesús para determinar sus rasgos esenciales: su mediatez, su orientación retrospectiva, su dimensión paradójica. La reflexión desemboca en el umbral de la teología trinitaria, con consideraciones acerca del “sí” divino.

    Sabellius libyen, Libye sabellienne?

    Was Sabellius really a Libyan? Examining contemporary sources and ancient historiography on one of the most enigmatic heretics in the history of dogmas, the article shows that the Libyan origin of Sabellius is unlikely, and that it is an exaggeration to claim that Libya was a Sabellian home in the third century. Eusebius of Caesarea is probably guilty of having identified the adversaries of Dionysius of Alexandria located in Ptolemais as disciples of Sabellius, and the testimony of Origen on the theology of the identification between the Father and Christ is too abstract to deduce that this theology was as widely diffused in the East as it has previously been held.

    The Biblical Hermeneutics of Noetus of Smyrna

    Noetus of Smyrna, who probably lived at the end of the 2d century, was proclaimed the father of modalism by the history of dogmas. His character, eclipsed by his successors to the role of the main representative of modalism (Sabellius or Marcellus of Ancyra), remains enigmatic. The two main documentary sources, Against Noetus (Contra Noetum) and Refutation of All Heresies (Refutatio omnium haeresium), give a discordant presentation of him: defender of a naïve interpretation of biblical monotheism or inventor of a Christian heracliteism? This article, after a brief historical introduction, studies the scriptural hermeneutics of the Smyrniot to show that Noetus is not a simplistic exegete or a narrow-minded theologian. His theology of divine identity, which it is wrong to call modalism, is based on an intelligent analysis of the Scriptures.

    What did Constantine learn in 325? Constantine's theological declarations before, at and after Nicaea

    The analysis of the corpus of letters of the emperor Constantine, in particular, the one he addressed to the synod of Arles in 314, the one he addressed to the Church of Nicomedia in 325 and the one he addressed to Arius in 333, and of Eusebius of Caesarea's account of the Synod of Nicaea in 325, allows to evaluate the evolution of the theological representations of the first Christian emperor. Constantine's interest was not only political, but he also was able to listen to and understand the theological milestones of the controversy.

    Yves de Chartres est-il la source des sentences patristiques du Sacrement de l'autel de Guillaume de Saint-Thierry?

    The treatise On the Sacrament of the Altar, is the first properly theological work by Benedictine abbot Guillaume de Saint-Thierry. It includes many « sentences of the Fathers ». Moreover, the work ends with an anthology of twenty eight quotations. In his apparatus fontium, editor Paul Verdeyen suggests similarities with a previous patristic anthology, the Decretum of canonist Yves de Chartres. Did Guillaume use this anthology ? The present article, in trying to answer to this question, brings to light how Guillaume de Saint-Thierry readings and extractions of authorities.
