    Capítulo comparativo: el avance imparable del streaming

    Como cada año, el Observatorio Iberoamericano de la Ficción Televisiva (Obitel) monitoriza el sistema televisivo de los países del ámbito iberoamericano para dar cuenta, principalmente, de dos cuestiones clave: la oferta televisiva y el nivel de consumo, por un lado, y la producción de ficción y sus principales tendencias, por el otro. Este primer capítulo del anuario 2024, sin intención ninguna de substituir la lectura de los 10 capítulos nacionales, tiene como objetivo ofrecer una síntesis integradora de todos ellos. Se presentan, por consiguiente, los principales puntos en común y las singularidades del fenómeno televisivo en los diferentes países analizados, así como otros aspectos que no resultan destacables al leer un capítulo individual. Los datos de 2023 presentados en el presente anuario evidencian la consolidación de un nuevo modelo televisivo, en el que las plataformas de streaming han ido desplazando a la televisión en abierto y han alcanzado una posición privilegiada como principal tecnología de distribución de contenidos televisivos de ficción. A diferencia de la telenovela, cuyo anclaje principal sigue siendo la televisión abierta, la serie es el formato dominante en el VoD, donde ha crecido estimulado por las plataformas de streaming. Este hecho ha transformado las dinámicas de producción, incrementando tanto la producción como la coproducción, pero reduciendo signif icativamente el número de entregas.

    Comparative Chapter: the unstoppable march of streaming

    One more year, the Ibero-American Observatory of Television Fiction (Obitel) monitors the television systems of Ibero-American countries to report mainly on two key issues: on the one hand, the television offering and consumption levels, and on the other, the production of fiction and its main trends. This first chapter of the 2024 yearbook, without intending to replace the reading of the 10 national chapters, aims to offer an integrative synthesis of all of them. Therefore, it presents the main common points and the singularities of the television phenomenon in the different analyzed countries, as well as other aspects that may not stand out when reading an individual chapter. T he 2023 data presented in this yearbook show the consolidation of a new television model, in which streaming platforms have been displacing free-to-air television and have reached a privileged position as the main distribution technology for fiction television content. Unlike the telenovela, which remains primarily anchored to free-to-air television, the series is the dominant format in VoD, where it has grown, driven by streaming platforms. This has transformed production dynamics, increasing both production and co-production, while significantly reducing the number of episodes.
