All rights reserved.COVID-19 is a global public health issue due to its epidemic nature that, to date, lacks pharmacological treatment. However, some COVID-19 vaccines have been authorized for emergency use, although the duration of their protection, their ability to interrupt viral transmission, and their efficacy against emerging variants of SARS-CoV-2 are being studied. Chile's SARS-CoV-2 vaccination campaign required design and planning, like any other campaign. This process included the prioritization of risk groups for vaccination given the limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines globally. Throughout 2020, CAVEI issued recommendations on the prioritization of population groups to be vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 in response to different needs and in accordance with available evidence. These recommendations are consolidated in Table 1 in this report. In summary, it was recommended that healthcare workers, people in long-term residences and essential State personnel be vaccinated in phase 1. In phase 2, persons over 65 years of age and people with comorbidities. In phase 3, essential tasks workers and, lastly, the general population.
- ItemEl vínculo docencia-investigación en programas de pregrado: Estado del arte y propuestas para fortalecerlo(2016) González C.; Valenzuela C.G.; Montenegro Maggio Helena LoretoThis paper describes the state of the art on the teaching research nexus in undergraduate university programmes. Firstly, the main results of research in the area are synthetically presented. In this section, three key moments are distinguished: Quantitative studies conducted in the 90s that did not found correlation between teaching and research; qualitative studies -conducted in the 90s and onwards- that emphasized the experience of those involved in teaching experiences linking teaching and research; and more recent quantitative studies that have found positive correlations between both tasks. Secondly, key elements influencing the realization of the teaching-research nexus are presented: Discipline and year of study; conceptions of research and knowledge, conceptions of learning and teaching; and levels of intervention (classroom and institutional levels). Thirdly, three conceptual models describing the teaching-research nexus are presented. These models are: Jenkins and Healey's; Levy and Petrulis'; and Brew's model. Finally, implications of the reviewed literature are discussed and ideas to strengthen the link between teaching and research are proposed.

All rights reserved.Introduction: The diagnosis of growth hormone deficiency (GHD) is difficult to determine, and could be associated with severe complications, especially in the neonatal period. The stimulation test of growth hormone (GH) secretion is considered the gold standard for diagnosis, but it has methodological complications and is associated with adverse effects. Neonates present physiological increased secretion of GH, representing a diagnostic window. Objective: To evaluate if the dried blood spot on filter paper obtained in the neonatal period, as part of a neonatal screening for congenital hypothyroidism and phenylketonuria, allows differentiating patients with GHD from those who do not have it. Patients and Method: Study of cases and controls by measuring the GH concentration in dried blood spot on filter paper obtained in the neonatal period, comparing controls with GHD with cases with discarded deficiency. The sample was extracted from the filter paper, obtaining two 0.125 inch discs per each patient from the center of the blood spot on the paper, for a highly sensitive ELISA assay for human GH based on the use of polyclonal antibodies against 22 kDa recombinant human GH. Results: Seven cases of GHD and ten controls were obtained. The median GH concentration of the dried blood spot in the cases is 2.0 ng/ml (Interquartile range 3.6 ng/ml) and 2.05 ng/ml (Interquartile range 2.0 ng/ml) in the controls, Mann-Whitney U test 30.5 (p = 0.68). The two cases with multiple pituitary-hormone deficiency (MPHD) present concentrations lower than 1 ng/ml. Conclusion: The dried blood spot sample did not differentiate GHD patients from control cases, although MPHD cases present much lower concentrations compared to isolated growth hormone deficiency (IGHD).
