The present study assesses the use of solar heat in dairy factories applying Ultra High Temperature pasteurization, using three locations in Chilean central and southern regions as case studies. The analysis utilizes numerical simulations considering annual energy performance, economic feasibility, size of thermal energy storage (TES), and the economic competitiveness for four different solar thermal collector technologies: Flat Plate Collector (FPC), Evacuated Tube Collector, Parabolic Trough Collector (PTC), and Linear Fresnel Reflector. The numerical simulations were conducted using the TRNSYS software for varying meteorological parameters and hourly heat load profile. The integration scheme selected for the implementation of the SHIP systems considers supply level to reheat the boiler's feedwater. The results show that the minimum levelized cost of heat ranges between 78 USD/MWh - 79 USD/MWh, with FPC and PTC showing the lower values. For all the companies analyzed, the minimums values of LCoH were observed when considering specific storage volumes between 75 l/m2-120 l/m2, 2 - 120 l/m 2 , indicating a strong relationship between solar resource availability and financial performance.

Daniel; Gomez-Pando, Luz; Fuentes, Francisco; Mayta-Anco, Mayela E.; Curti, Ramiro; Rey, Elodie; Tester, Mark; Jellen, Eric N.Pitseed goosefoot (Chenopodium berlandieri) is a free-living North American member of an allotetraploid complex that includes the Andean pseudocereal quinoa (C. quinoa). Like quinoa, pitseed goosefoot was domesticated, possibly independently, in eastern North America (subsp. jonesianum) and Mesoamerica (subsp. nuttaliae). To test the utility of C. berlandieri as a resource for quinoa breeding, we produced the whole-genome DNA sequence of PI 433,231, a huauzontle from Puebla, M & eacute;xico. The 1.295 Gb genome was assembled into 18 pseudomolecules and annotated using RNAseq data from multiple tissues. Alignment with the v.2.0 genome of Chilean-origin C. quinoa cv. 'QQ74' revealed several inversions and a 4A-6B reciprocal translocation. Despite these rearrangements, some quinoa x pitseed goosefoot crosses produce highly fertile hybrids with faithful recombination, as evidenced by a high-density SNP linkage map constructed from a Bolivian quinoa 'Real-1' x BYU 937 (Texas coastal pitseed goosefoot) F-2 population. Recombination in that cross was comparable to a 'Real-1' x BYU 1101 (Argentine C. hircinum) F-2 population. Furthermore, SNP-based phylogenetic and population structure analyses of 90 accessions supported the hypothesis of multiple independent domestications and descent from a common 4 x ancestor, with a likely North American Center of Origin.

Quinoa ( Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) has been cultivated for more than 7,000 years in the mountain regions (Andes Mountains) of South America. Five ecotypes differing in their phenology, morphology and stress resistance can be found. One of these ecotypes corresponds to the coastal ecotype, which is cultivated mainly in Chile. Little information is available regarding the response of this ecotype to nitrogen (N) fertilization. In the present study, three N fertilization doses (low: 30, adequate: 140 and high: 280 kg ha -1 ) were evaluated in plants grown in containers. Seed yield and quality attributes, including seed weight, nitrate content, germination, and seed longevity, were evaluated. These results indicate that increasing N fertilization promotes increases in seed yield and weight. In terms of seed quality, although the fertilization treatments did not affect germination, seed longevity was reduced by increasing the N fertilization dose.
